Definition
Under the supervision of the District Manager: plan, organize, and coordinate the water delivery of the District and assist District employees in new construction, general repairs and maintenance of the District.
Examples of Duties (not inclusive)
· Operate equipment within the District to repair, maintain, and construct waterways.
· Operate the water delivery system of the District to deliver water to fields, as well as the drainage system to remove water out of the District.
· Apply pesticide to canals and roads to control weeds to ensure proper water flow.
· Install, maintain, repair, and replace water meters, take and confirm accurate water meter readings, including adjustments.
· Document and maintain a variety of records and reports regarding water delivery system operation, maintenance, and meter exchange and repair.
· Will be relief meter reader and water operations supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Techniques, tools and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of irrigation systems, water meters and related systems.
· Basic math and measurement knowledge.
· Appropriate safety practices and work procedures.
· Have knowledge of, and the ability to, operate equipment (excavator, backhoe, bulldozer, mower and spray equipment).
· Ability to read and interpret data, information and documents, analyze and solve problems.
· Analyze maintenance and operational issues, evaluate alternatives and recommend effective courses of action.
Requirements
· During water operation (April through January) the job schedule will be Sunday through Thursday – outside those months schedule should be Monday through Friday. We deliver water seven days a week, so the schedule may require seven days a week if necessary. Able and willing to work the days and hours needed to get the job done.
· Ability to get QAL Pesticide License within one year of hire.
· College degree or college credits are desirable, but work experience would be considered in place of education experience.
· Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license required during employment.
Working Environment
· This job requires work in an outdoor environment subject to heat, cold, wet conditions, fumes and/or airborne particles.
· Background or experience delivering irrigation water preferred, but not required
· Establish and maintain positive working relationships with District employees, growers, and landowners, and the public.
